Fitness StatementStarted running seriously at age 64. Did not consider myself a "runner" until I read that "If you run, you are a runner". I have also heard that new runners typically improve for ten years. Seemed pleasantly ironic at my age. Other than a set-back from an injury (resulting from bad form), after four years I was still consistently improving my pace and age-graded performance. I set 5 (of 7) distance PR's the year I turned 70. I am empirical evidence that to a degree intensity of your workout can replace extensive time on your feet in training., and that if you don't accept preconceived limits on your ability you are no longer limited. Diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in 2004. Started training at Rock Steady Boxing, a unique non-contact boxing training program designed for people with PD, in 2007. As a result, I feel I have achieved the best fitness level of my life for my age despite the effects of PD. I run because I can, because it is empowering, as a symbol of believing in yourself, and to honor those who are challenged by their physical condition and are not so blessed. Since turning 70 I have been diagnosed as hyper- and hen hypothyroid and had major surgery to stop infection and repair hernia mesh migration. I am also ten years older. Still I will set a distance PR of 800+ miles at 77.

Running AchievementsSince the month I turned 70, I have achieved a PR at every distance I have run except marathon, and 10K. Under the coaching of Matt Ebersole, www.pbtau.com, I have continued to run and achieve unexpected results. Garmin says I cover ore miles than 90+ percent of my AG.

In 2018 I was honored to run in the Drake Relays Masters 800m. While I finished well behind the rest of the (much younger) field, it was a joyful orotunity to show the benefits of perseverance regardless of challenges.

I ran my first marathon at age 66, with guidance and companionship (step for step) from my brother. Achieved my goal of finishing the 2013 Indy "500" Festival Mini healthy. Missed my 'silent' goal of eclipsing my time set in 1984 at the Mini, where I started running, by only 25 seconds. I then ran a half PR in November, 2013. I surpassed that time at both the "500" Mini and th eMonumental half in 2015. I call the feeling "juvenile euphoria". To borrow from P. Rothschild, "Slower I was. Faster I became. It is just a number." Training pace seems to indicate there is still room for improvement. Typical did not apply to a 68-year-old who didn't know his limits yet. I started running late, but continued improvement illustrates that training and commitment can go a long way in compensating for the loss of under-appreciated youthful energy. At 75, everything has become a little more challenging. Warmup, pace, stamina, but I can still run. (Any day running is another good day of praising the blessing.)

Eight year after my second marathon, I ran a BQ in April 2022. My training has been interrupted by a fall and Covid-19 but I have eight weeks to get in the best shape possible.

Epilogue: I ran Boston with my brother as support runner. I felt good at the finish and was only +5:00 over my PR eight years earlier.

runnerI started out taking only Azilect, then Mirapex,and then dopamine  for my Parkinson disease, as the disease progressed they didn’t help much. A year ago I started on PD TREATMENT PROTOCOL from Aknni Herbs Centre (aknniherbscentre.com). One month into the treatment, I made a significant recovery, my symptoms were gone including tremors . It's been months since I completed the treatment, I am symptom free and I live a very productive life all thanks to Aknni herbs centre !!!

runnerGreat workout with Coach Matt Ebersole's PBT yesterday. WU, a couple of 1 min. sprints, 3 miles steady, finish strong, CD. I have been struggling since my quad injury March 23rd. Still not up to my own expectations, but I now have more optimism. Focusing on the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon and Half Nov.1.
